Matthew 6:8B “...for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.”
Matthew 6:32B “...for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.”
VBS was great this year! I must say I am a little biased/sentimental toward some of last year’s characters and themes but we had a blast this year. I praise God for answered prayer. One of our many prayer requests was that no one would get injured during VBS and that was answered! We prayed for God to be glorified, the gospel of Jesus Christ to be preached, and for growth from the children. It was a real blessing to see children return this year and be a part of all the fun. It doesn’t feel like it was even that long ago since we had seen them all! I also saw some exceptional growth in one of our boys who received Christ last year as his personal Lord and Saviour. He even was voted the Bible Voyager of the Week! Which says so much right there. He also had asked me for the link to the song the children learned during VBS. It’s a beautiful song! You can find the link at the bottom of this post.
We shared Ron Hamilton’s testimony video and the children were challenged by it knowing that he made the best of losing his eye to cancer for God’s glory. His love and dedication for Jesus was so encouraging to all of us. It was a great way of remembering Patch The Pirate(Ron Hamilton) and what God did in his life. We had already picked the theme when we found out later that Ron Hamilton had gone home to be with Jesus in Heaven. I myself enjoyed listening to the Patch The Pirate audio stories that you can find on iTunes. It was what helped me choose the songs for VBS.
You could just see how God’s hand was in the preparation of it all.
Josh Lueskow was the preacher and his sermons went so well with everything we were trying to teach to the children. Even their memory verses correlated with Josh’s bible lessons.
The film, decorations, skits, snacks, craft time, games, and jumper is definitely becoming a tradition amongst all of the staff and children. They had games such as "walk the plank", craft time of making swords, and snack time had to do with the themes as well. What I loved seeing is that some of the children wrote their memory verse on the swords they made. I’ve asked the children for feedback and there always seems to be an equal love for it all. It has changed over the years as we have grown as a church. We have more people getting involved and bringing their talents along with their service. It really has taken VBS to the next level. I am super grateful for the VBS team/staff God has given to Bible Baptist Church. Everyone seems to really embrace and enjoy their roles.
One thing that stood out as something you just can’t help but laugh at is the “Parrot Story”. I had asked at our first VBS meeting for everyone to pray for one specific prayer request along with our important yearly prayer requests and that was to pray that we could have a live Parrot for VBS! We all prayed. I looked and asked around. I found a bird store that sells parrots and was regrettably informed that they won’t start doing events until next year. I asked people at my job and they could not find anyone. Well, VBS came along and I had one of our VBS team leaders offer to bring one of her chickens each night which I thought was perfect for our theme this year! The kids LOVED it! Surprisingly, I didn’t get too upset that we didn’t get to have a Parrot. I just assumed it was for a reason. I did give my friend a hard time when she said maybe God didn’t let us have a parrot because of the danger the bird might impose on the children with its “dangerous beak”. Well, we found out later after registration that the ONE child with allergies was a boy who named only ONE allergy that he had….. You guessed it: A PARROT! :) God is so good and knows best. There is true JOY in serving Him. This was such a great example of the good humor in ministry. Below are some links and bible verses that I pray blesses your heart and draws you closer to God.
